They are quite easy to make and the kids can join the holiday spirit with these unique Christmas ornaments.

The best thing about these homemade Christmas ornaments is that, you can use anything!  And convert it to a beautiful festive ornament.  You can recycle items around your home that no one would have ever thought about!

Recycled Jewelry

If you would love to use shiny and sparkly jewelry and don't have any!  No worries, take a quick trip to your local second hand store and search for unique pieces that would make a stunning Christmas ornament.

You can use:

  • Earring you no longer wear

  • Necklaces

  • Bracelets

  • Rings

  • Sparkly hair clips

  • Sparkly buckles of an old belt

Supplies:

  • Your favorite colored Christmas ribbon

  • And some red berries

  • Hot glue gun

  • Christmas ball hooks

  • Pliers to remove unwanted pieces

  • Silver glitter (optional)

What to do:

  1. Take your jewelry and attach a Christmas hook and secure it with your hot glue gun

  2. While your hot glue gun is hot, at the back of the piece of jewelry, hang the berried down ward

  3. This way the piece of jewelry is the centerpiece of the hanging berries

  4. Tie a bow around the hook area with your favorite colored ribbon

  5. And that's it, a beautiful sparkling handmade Christmas ornament

Items around the House

For an inexpensive homemade Christmas ornament you can get in touch with your creative side.  Ask the kids to give you a couple of small toys they no longer play with.  Or to make the perfect family tree, ask everyone in the house to give you one small or medium object from their rooms.  This way the tree will be created with everyone's memories and treasures.

Make a family night of this special event by making some hot cocoa with marshmallows and spread all your supplies out on the dining table. Then ask each family member to create a special ornament for the tree with the items they no longer use.  Christmas is all about spending that quality time with the family and kids, so what a perfect family night to create gems for the tree.

You can use:

  • Key chains

  • Keys you no longer use

  • Miniature picture frames

  • Flowers from an old flower arrangement

  • Your child's toys they no longer play with

  • Wind chimes

Supplies:

  • Christmas hooks

  • Silver, red, green non-toxic acrylic paint (use your favorite holiday colors)

  • Silver glitter

  • Holiday colored thin ribbon

  • Faux holiday holly berries, gems, and any holiday trinkets

  • Hot glue gun

What to do:

  1. The item you choose to use, simply hot glue the Christmas hook to the item

  2. Now, simply paint it with your favorite holiday color

  3. Allow a few minutes to dry

  4. Once the item is dry, attach and hang some holiday trinkets from you handmade Christmas ornaments

  5. Then attach your ribbon

  6. For that extra sparkle rub some glue on the item and sprinkle the silver glitter all over it!

Tip: If you use loose keys, use at least three.  This way you will get the sound of a chime.  With a miniature picture frame, put last years Christmas photo in it!

Homemade Christmas Ornaments with Recycles Materials

For that special ornament for your tree involve the kids and make recycled Christmas ornaments.  Recycling is key to a healthy environment, so why not covert these items to festive pieces for you Christmas tree.  The kids will love putting these ones together and it teaches the kids about the importance of recycling.

You can use:

  • Egg cartons

  • Small milk boxes

  • Lids to glass jars

  • Light bulbs

  • Miniature cardboard boxes

What these items could be converted to:

  • Egg cartons: Holiday Bells

  • Small milk box: A festive bird house

  • Lids to glass jars: A snow flake

The outdoors has many natural pieces that would make a stunning Christmas ornament.  The kids can put on their warm mittens and explore for fun pieces.  The search for beautiful possibilities will get the kids out running and watching them pick out the cutest things is priceless.  A great time to find natures gems is in or around the fall.  This way you and the family can see the ground clearly.
